Made for business

Symbian Series 80 was a business-oriented operating system flavor designed for advanced communication devices, primarily featured on Nokia’s Communicator series. Launched in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Series 80 was tailored for productivity, offering robust support for office applications, email, web browsing, and multitasking. Its hallmark feature was the use of a full QWERTY keyboard and large screens on devices like the Nokia 9210 and 9500, which resembled miniature laptops.

Despite its innovative approach, Series 80 was eventually overshadowed by the more versatile and consumer-friendly Series 60 platform. Series 60’s compatibility with a broader range of devices and applications cemented its dominance in the Symbian ecosystem. Series 80 remains a noteworthy chapter in mobile OS history, representing an era when business functionality was prioritized over mainstream appeal.
