Motorola VE66

Status: 🟡 Minor finish damages, modified firmware, otherwise functional

It sounds pretty strange, but Motorola just couldn’t get 3G to work on its proprietary Linux-based platform. Before long, this made it uncompetitive. A real shame—there was potential. One of the last devices on the MOTOMAGX platform was the Motorola VE66.

I distinctly remember getting my hands on it at a Motorola flagship store. The phone’s body was made of plastic, but it felt super premium. A great choice of materials combined with a sleek design.

As a device, it wasn’t anything groundbreaking, though on my personal scale, it could definitely compete with the Nokia N95. It even had WiFi. The only downside was the lack of software—so for the average user, the VE66 remained just a mediocre feature phone.

This model isn’t easy to find—I had to go through third parties to get it—but in the end, it now holds an honorable place in my collection.
